Symptom
Symptom: “The backup was unsuccessful. An exception occurred while executing a transact-SQL statement or batch. 1117 The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error" causing MIP>File>Backup to fail
Cause: The Error Code 1117 is referred from MIP but is generated by the Windows operating system, and it is caused by I/O (Input/Output) throughput issues with the storage hardware--either the disk or the controller that it is attached to. It cannot be resolved from MIP or by MIP Support.
Resolution: It is an issue with the hardware or 3rd party storage device/driver and falls outside the Abila M&S Scope of Support. This document and links are provided as a courtesy to our customers. Contact your IT Support and have them login to the MIP Server and run diagnostics on the impacted partition where MS SQL Server backups are located.
