Version 2022.1: Migrating Fundraising 50 to a new Server

Notes and Prerequisites before updating to v2022.x of Fundraising 50

  • Review System Requirements

  • Backup your existing database before beginning the migration process

  • Enable Netframework 3.5 at the server and at each workstation

  • Install Fundraising 50 at the server

  • Install Paya Connect Desktop – only applies to customers who contract with Paya for credit card processing

  • Share FR50 Share – a folder created during installation at the server where user created backups are stored and where the workstation installer is found

  • New for v2022 Restore Database – SA Password may be required

  • Enable Firewall Exception – for customer who run Windows Firewall

  • New for v2022 – uninstall existing workstation then install v2022 workstation(s) on each machine

 
Download FR50 from KB 28181:  click here

Be sure that you have your Serial Number and Activation Code for the installation.  The Serial Number and Activation Code can be found in Fundraising 50 by going to Administration>Activation Code.



Copy the Serial Number and Activation Code to a Notepad file for use on the new server



Step 1: Enable NetFramework 3.5
Before starting the installation, verify that Netframework 3.5 is enabled
In the Start Menu type Control Panel and hit Enter on the keyboard



Select Programs>Uninstall a program



Select Turn Windows features on or off



Expand .NetFramework 3.5 (includes .Net 2.0 and 3.0) and check off .NetFramework 3.5 and the two check boxes below.  Select OK



Select Let Windows Update download the files for you



The download and update will begin.  Select Close when the update is complete



Step 2: Install Fundraising 50

Unzip the file by right clicking and selecting Extract



Double-click the installer to start the installation



Depending on your environmental security the following message may appear.
Select More info



Select Run anyway



Select Begin Installation Process



The file will extract



Select Next



Enter your Serial Number and Activation Code
Select Next



Accept the license agreement then select Next



IMPORTANT:
You may need to select Browse to change the location of the FR50 Share, which is the directory where backups the user creates will be stored and where the workstation installer will be found.

This location cannot be easily changed if the incorrect drive is selected and may result in reinstalling the Fundraising 50 server.

Select Next



New for 2022 – the installer will locate the server where Fundraising 50 is installed.  You will want to verify this before proceeding because the installer writes the server name to the workstation.ini file which the workstation installer uses to connect the FR50 workstation back to the FR50 database.

Select Windows Authentication

Select Next



Select Install



The install process will begin.



Select Finish



The workstation files will start extracting



Select Next



Accept the Agreement
Select Next



Select Next



Select Install



The workstation installation will begin



Select Finish

Step 3: Install Paya Connect Desktop
Only applies to customers who process credit cards or checks with Paya
Customers who do not process credit cards through Paya can skip this step and proceed to the next step
Select Agree followed by Next



The installation will begin

Select Download and Install



The installation will begin



Select Close



Select Exit to close the Fundraising 50 installer




Step 4: Share out the FR50 Share directory
Open the File Explorer and locate where you installed the FR50 Share. 
The default location is C:\FR50 Share
Right click on FR50 Share then select Give access to>Specific people



Select Everyone followed by Add



Add Read/Write permissions
Select Share



Select Done



Step 5: Restore Database
New for version 2022

  • The database restore will occur within SQL Server Management Studio

  • You will need the SA Password for your SQL Server Management Studio installation to restore the Fundraising 50 database.

  • Both .bak and .nps files can be restored using this procedure

To locate SQL Server Management Studio, begin typing Studio Management in the Start Menu on the server then select



At the login prompt, select the instance of SQL where Fundraising 50 will reside and use your SA credentials
Select Connect



In the Object Explorer right-click and select Databases>Restore Database



Select Device
Select the ellipsis (three dot button)
Locate your Fundraising 50 backup
Select OK



Select OK



Select OK



In the Object Explorer select Databases>your Fundraising 50 database>right click>Properties



In the Owner field type in FR50SysAdmin



Select OK
The admin account in the database that was just restored will need to be deleted because this is the admin for the old environment.
In the Object Explorer select Databases>your Fundraising 50 database name>Security>Users>right-click and select Delete



Select OK



In the Object Explorer expand Security>Logins>right-click on Admin and select Properties



Select your Fundraising 50 database then select OK



Select OK
Important:
To restore the users in Fundraising 50, select the FR50 icon on your desktop and login as admin
Login as admin/abilafr50 – depending on your environmental security, you may be prompted to reset the password
Select your Fundraising 50 database in the dropdown menu
 
Go to Administration>Security>Users and Passwords



A message listing all the logins will appear, the existing user passwords will change to the literal word of password.



Step 6: Enable Windows Firewall Exceptions
At the server or the machine were Fundraising 50 is installed, Firewall exceptions will need will be needed for SQLSrvr and SQL Browser.
In the Start menu type in Firewall then select Allow an app through Windows Firewall



Select Allow another app…



Select Browse



Go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL15.SQLEXPRESS2019\MSSQL\Binn
Select sqlservr followed by Open



Select Add



Select Browse



Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Shared
Select sqlbrowser followed by Open



Select Add



Select OK to accept the changes and close the Firewall settings
 
Step 7: Install workstations on user machines
Important:
New for 2022.x, workstations will need to be uninstalled and reinstalled at each machine because of new security features which are in place.
On the workstation where the Fundraising 50 workstation needs to be installed you will need to open the File Explorer and select the server or machine where Fundraising 50 is installed.



Select FR50 Share



Select Setup



Select FR50Workstation.exe



The installer will display Preparing to install



Select Next



Accept the Terms then select Next



Select Next



Select Install



The installation will begin



Select Finish



If your organization utilized Paya for credit card and check processing then the Paya Connect Desktop will need to be installed, otherwise this can be skipped.
