Symptom

Multi-user license indicates limit is reached when only one user is logged in.

Login error:  The Fundraising 50 application requires exclusive use of the database, and the following user is currently logged in to the database: <username>.  The user must log out of the database and open the application again, or log in as a different user.

Cause

SQL Server still indicates a second user is still logged into or accessing the database.

Resolution

For SQL Server 2005 or 2008:

  1. Launch SQL Server Management Studio Express

  2. Select instance of SQL managing the database.

  3. Click connect

  4. In Object Explorer, expand management folder.

  5. Right click on Activity Monitor and select view processes.

  6. Right click on the row of user name that was unable to log into the database

  7. Select Kill Process




For SQL Server Management Studio Express 2012: 

  1. Repeat steps 1 to 3 above

  2. Activity Monitor is in the Menu bar of 2012


  1. Click on Processes to view processes

  2. Right click on the row of the user name unable to log into the database

  3. Right click and select Kill Process




If the user is still unable to log into the database, Stop the SQL Service and restart it to clear all processes.
